Yosemite Quarter

The Yosemite National Park Quarter will represent the third release of the America the Beautiful Quarter series. Yosemite National Park, selected for the state of California, is represented on the reverse of the coin with a depiction of El Capitan, a granite cliff that rises more than 3,000 feet above the valley floor. The obverse features a portrait of George Washington used for all coins of the series. The reverse was designed by Joseph Menna and the obverse was designed by John Flanagan.

Having been to Yosemite National Park many times, this quarter is a disappointment! The Half Dome formation is half hidden by the trees and detracts from the formation’s true majesty. A design with smaller trees, or with one of the park’s many waterfalls, might have been a better design option.
