2007 Wyoming Quarter

The Wyoming State Quarter was released in 2007 as the thirty ninth coin of the 50 State Quarters Program. The obverse of the coin was designed by William Cousins after John Flanagan. 1. Many states with lesser natural beauty showcased their parks and landmarks. Wyoming’s faceless rider, already looking like the flattened veteran of a century of circulation, sidesteps all the nature the state is renowned for. Wyoming takes simplicity too far.

  2. Very disappointing given that Wyoming contains two of the most awesome national parks in the whole country (Yellowstone and Grand Teton), either of which could provide ample inspiration for a coin design (recall the Yellowstone commemorative silver dollar featuring Old Faithful). The lack of detail in the low relief presentation of the bucking bronco silhouette is reminiscent of a circulated Canadian quarter. The excess of blank space further detracts from the overall presentation and makes this one of the worst designs in the entire State Quarters series.

  3. I rate this one of the better State Quarter designs due to its stark simplicity and originality. Most other quarters tried to shoehorn too much detail and too many themes into the small size of the quarter.

  4. How could a state with so much history and beauty put out such a lackluster effort.

  5. This is the worst of the state quarters. Very boring, cardboard cutout design which looks like it was designed by a 5 year old. No detail. At least they could have added some detail to the horse and rider, and even some background rodeo scenes.
