Utah Quarter

2007 Utah Quarter
The Utah State Quarter was released in 2007 as the forty fifth coin of the 50 State Quarters Program. The obverse of the coin was designed by William Cousins after John Flanagan. The reverse of the coin was designed by Joseph Menna. The reverse design highlights the famous joining of the Union Pacific and Central Pacific Railroads on May 10, 1869. The scene features two locomotives moving towards a golden spike.

Science and engineering rarely are depicted on US coins, so I was excited to see locomotives on the Utah quarter. Thank you for commemorating the great endeavor of the Transcontinental Railroad. Furthermore, the sense of symmetry on this coin is pleasing.
Ratings:Interesting and historic design could have been better used on a Commemoratibe coin or medal with a Gold plated spike. Another “nice” design in a lack luster series of States Quarters.
