Ultra High Relief Double Eagle

2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin
The 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin was launched on January 22, 2009 as a digital recreation of Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ original design for a 1907 ultra high relief coin. The design has been updated slightly from the original coin plasters to increase the number of stars on the obverse to fifty, indicate the current date in Roman Numerals, add the motto “In God We Trust” to the reverse, and add a small border to create a consistent edge for the coin.

Should have been in proof form, if technically possible. Produced with unacceptable defects, which would have been rejected as a circulating coin
Ratings:I absolutley love this coin with a strong passion and own a few of them. IMO the historical significance is huge cosidering this coin was done the right way this time ( in UHR ) I would choose owning this TRUE double eagle over the old originals anyday and as a collector it’s an ultimate honor to own the real deal.. Thank you US mint.
Ratings:As a collectible and bullion coin, this one will do well simply because of its investment potential. That said, the use of St. Gaudens’ designs is becoming tiresome. Can the U.S. Mint not create a modern classic, such as Australia’s “Kangaroo at Sunset”?
Ratings:This coin is a instant American classic. The design has always been considered one of the world’s most beautiful coins, and it is.
Ratings:This is a little work of art. I’ve always wanted to own one.
Ratings:The mintage numbers continue to trickle, still under 70,000 thus far. It was originally thought that there may be 300,000 sold which won’t be the case. I wish I could buy a second one to sell in the future. Mark my word, 10 years down the road this coin will sell at a nice premium. It is a beautiful $20 piece.
Ratings:This is a terrific looking coin. The historical significance is great as well.
The investment potential is not so good, though… due to the fact that it will be the highest minted gold coin produced in 2009 besides the bullion gold eagles… it will likely have a final mintage around 100,000, which is more than every other collectible gold coin that will be sold during 2009. It will be the 2nd most common 2009 gold coin. That makes me unsure of it maintaining a high value in the future.
Still looks terrific though!
Ratings:If you have not seen this coin in hand, it is well worth the price. It is a fantastic looking coin and wish gold was cheaper so I could afford one!!
Ratings:2009 UHR current mintage.
Ratings:Anyone have figures on how these are selling into April ?
Nice coin ! No way to know how many will be produced.
Ratings:Look at the gems that came out of 2008 with low production. Uncirculated Buffalos, 1 year only & the three year run of the Uncirculated gold set. The seem to get a batch out every few months. Maybe a 100K by years end. Enough to make a market.
