Jefferson’s Liberty $10 Gold

2007-W Thomas Jefferson
The Thomas Jefferson’s Liberty Gold Coin was the third release of the First Spouse Gold Coin Program. Thomas Jefferson did not have a spouse while serving as the 3rd President from 1801 to 1809. The obverse of the coin, which features the Liberty image from the Draped Bust Half Cent, was originally designed by Robert Scot and re-sculpted by Phebe Hemphill. The reverse of the coin features Thomas Jefferson’s monument and was designed and sculpted by Charles Vickers.

Probably the BEST (so far) of the “Spouse” gold coins. None of the others we’ve seen can touch it for beauty.
Ratings:Great Flowing Hair obverse design. Reverse design is a bit weak. It’s gold so has to be a keeper.
Ratings:This is the third really nice coin in the First Spouse series, unfortunately, none of the three depict a “first spouse”. I expect this, along with Andrew Jackson and Van Buren will become popular with collector’s because of their historic coin design’s.
Ratings:I love the obverse but the reverse could have been much better. A scene of Jefferson signing or writing the declaration of independence, or some other significant historical scene with Jefferson would have been nice. His grave marker with the inscription enlarged is not at all aesthetically pleasing, showing a lack of imagination and also fails to show artistic sense. It is also hard to read on the actual coins. I rate the obverse a “5″, but the reverse a “1″, so the coin design I rate at a net of “3″.
