The Oklahoma State Quarter was released in 2008 as the forty sixth coin of the 50 State Quarters Program. The obverse of the coin was designed by William Cousins after John Flanagan. The reverse of the coin was designed by Susan Gamble and engraved by Phebe Hemphill. The reverse design features the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, the state bird of Oklahoma. The state wildflower known as the Indian blanket appears beneath.

  1. It is sad to think of what could have been. The Mint-nixed proposal of the original pioneer theme would have spoken more about the state and its people than does the state bird.

  2. Another design that’s pleasing to the eye, but not outstanding really. That said, it’s still a standout compared with most States Quarter designs.

  3. The Oklahoma qtr’s design got some bad reviews but I like it. It looks nice, it holds up well and it’s representative of the state.

    The whole statehood program is not historical.

    Investment-wise, the Oklahomas were the lowest minted state qtr so they should have some potential.
