New Mexico Quarter

New Mexico State Quarter
The New Mexico State Quarter was released in 2008 as the forty seventh coin of the 50 State Quarters Program. The obverse of the coin was designed by William Cousins after John Flanagan. The reverse of the coin was designed by Don Everhart. The reverse design features the Zia Sun Symbol presented against a topographical map of New Mexico.

The reverse design looks off-center, with the state outline being a tad too high up, and the motto being crammed awkwardly to the left. I think the Navaho star is a nice touch, but something about the reverse just feels unfinished.
Ratings:The New Mexico Quarter has gotten some very good reviews from collector’s in online forums. I like the use of the Navaho symbol over the state map, making this one of the better designs in the States Quarter series. Overall, a above average coin design in a below average series.
