1999-D New Jersey Quarter
The New Jersey State Quarter was released in 1999 as the third coin of the 50 State Quarters Program. The obverse of the coin was designed by William Cousins after John Flanagan. The reverse of the coin was designed by Alfred Maletsky. The reverse design features George Washington crossing the Delaware, after the 1851 Emmanuel Leutze oil painting.

The Delaware River crossing is a fitting nod to New Jersey, and to the Washington quarter. It’s just not very original to re-issue a 150-year-old oil painting.
