2000-D Maryland Quarter

The Maryland State Quarter was released in 2000 as the seventh coin of the 50 State Quarters Program. The obverse of the coin was designed by William Cousins after John Flanagan. The reverse of the coin was designed by William J. Krawczewicz and sculpted by Thomas D. Rodgers.  The reverse design features the Old State House Capitol Dome with white oak leaf clusters. The Maryland Statehouse dates back to 1772.

  1. It has a nice sense of symmetry, but captures dirt too easily. Maryland has more history than this.

  2. I live in Maryland and I hate to say it but I think we dropped the ball on this one. We could have had the B&O railroad on the coin… or Fort McHenry… but no, they chose some building that no one knows about. In the picture for this article the design doesn’t look too bad. But in real life the coin just doesn’t look that good. It doesn’t take long before the coin starts to look dirty. Some of the statehood designs look nice even in circulation. Not ours. Bummer.
