The Martha Washington First Spouse Gold Coin was the first release of the First Spouse Gold Coin Program. Martha Washington served as the First Spouse for the 1st Presidency from 1789 to 1797. The obverse of the coin, which features a portrait of the First Lady, was designed and sculpted by Joseph Menna. The reverse of the coin features a younger Martha Washington sewing a button onto George Washington’s uniform jacket. It was designed by Susan Gamble and sculpted by Don Everhart.
