The pelican and trumpet seem superfluous. The Louisiana Purchase is fitting to commemorate here, but they could have put more emphasis on French colonial history, something unique to Louisiana.
Ratings:This is easily one of the worst designs of the entire State Quarters series. It seems like this design was created by a committee, as the use of three distinct and unrelated elements simply do not make for a cohesive overall design. The trumpet with musical notes in particular seems like a complete afterthought. A design based on just one of the themes - preferably the Louisiana Purchase - would have been a definite improvement.
