The Jamestown $5 Gold Coin was released in 2007 as part of the Jamestown 400th Anniversary Commemorative Coin Program. The obverse of the coin featuring Captain John Smith in conversation with an American Indian was designed and sculpted by John Mercanti. The reverse of the coin featuring the Jamestown Memorial Church was designed by Susan Gamble and sculpted by Don Everhart.

  1. A well balanced design, better than many of these new modern commemoratives. It is gold so should be a winner no matter what the design looks like.

  2. Not overly inspiring considering it’s historic significance, generally a disappointing coin. Hopefully a low mintage will keep this popular among collector’s.
