James Buchanan’s Liberty $10 Gold

2010-W James Buchanan
The James Buchanan’s Liberty Gold Coin is issued as a part of the First Spouse Gold Coin series. Because he did not have a spouse while serving in office, an image of Liberty from a circulating coin is used for the obverse of the coin, paired with a reverse depicting a scene of the President. The obverse of the coin features a reproduction of the obverse design of the Liberty Head Quarter Eagle design by Christian Gobrecht. This coin was produced from 1840 to 1907. The reverse of the coin features a scene of a young Jame Buchanan working as a bookkeeper in his parent’s small country store. The reverse of the coin was designed by David Westwood and sculpted by Joseph Menna.
