2004 Florida Quarter
The Florida State Quarter was released in 2004 as the twenty seventh coin of the 50 State Quarters Program. The obverse of the coin was designed by William Cousins after John Flanagan. The reverse of the coin was designed by Ralph Butler and engraved by T. James Farrell. The reverse design highlights Florida as a gateway to discovery. In includes a space shuttle, a Spanish galleon, and Sebal palm trees.

I agree with Paul. A nice mix of history, technology, and nature, but with more dead space than is comfortable.
Ratings:Not a bad effort, in my view, given the range of subject matter the State had to choose from. It’s a nice mix of old (ship) and new (space shuttle) with a little natural beauty (palm trees) added in as well, with a thoughtful motto that ties together the old and the new. That said, I think the design would have been much better if the three elements had each been made a bit larger. This would have enhanced the overall presentation by reducing the amount of empty space in the center of the design.
