The Bald Eagle Half Dollar was released as part of the 2008 American Bald Eagle Recovery and National Emblem Commemorative Coins Program. The obverse of the coin featuring baby eaglets in their nest was designed by Susan Gamble and sculpted by Joseph Menna. The reverse of the coin featuring the Bald Eagle Challenger was designed and sculpted by Charles Vickers.

  1. I like the the eagle & flag design. Not too crazy about the chicks and think this could have been pulled off a little better. Unfortunately, none of these halves are in silver so not worth saving.

  2. Now this obverse design is different, and I actually like the “chicks” design. However, the reverse Eagle is just not right, could it be that this specimen is still suffering from DDT poisoning? Sadly the pairing of these two dies ruins the obverse effect.
