Great designs both obverse and reverse.
Ratings:As with the Van Buren coin, this is a breath of fresh air in a series that is less than inspired. With the collecting public complaining about the use of politician’s on it’s circulating coinage, I fail to see the need of a series depicting their wives. This Andrew Jackson $10.00 Gold is a bright spot in the darkness.
Ratings:I must say they blew it with this design. They have used the capped head design instead– the one they went with isn’t very successful, as the portrait seems blank and bland; they try and cram in too many elements, a flaw that also plagued the state quarters series. The best designs historically are the ones executed with bold elements; think buffalo nicks (most any Fraser design in fact), st. gaudens, pratt, a.a. weinman, etc. The reverse suffers from “tokenism,” another design flaw also perpetrated on the presidential dollar series reverses.
Ratings:Excellent historical design!
Ratings:I like the revisit to the old early 1800’s coin designs, though I think the early “turban head” $10 gold obverse would have been a better choice than the half dollar bust head. This is still a very nice coin design, and I like the reverse very much as well. It’s a nice rendition of “Old Hickory” on his horse.
