The image on the reverse side of the coin is apparently Brooks River Falls in Katmai National Park on the Alaska Peninsula. I am very familiar with the site. It was a good choice as representative of the Last Frontier.
Ratings:I think its nice how the mint employees will take credit for even the mediocre coins submitted by the citizens who designed them. Gold? Oil? Nat Gas? Nah, lets pick a Grizzly eating Salmon. I think I have that in velvet - it glows under blacklight. Maybe we should have put one of the Ice Road Truckers on the back.
Ratings:An otherwise fine subject, but the low coin relief is not sufficient to capture this nature scene enough to do it justice.
Ratings:Another “nice” design, though uninspired and not really special, thus befitting a series like the States Quarters. I feel that this would have made a great 1970’s “sofa painting” but doesn’t really do much as a coin design.
