The Abigail Adams First Spouse Gold Coin was the second release of the First Spouse Gold Coin Program. Abigail Adams served as the First Spouse for the 2nd Presidency from 1797 to 1801. The obverse of the coin, which features a portrait of the First Lady, was designed and sculpted by Joseph Menna. The reverse of the coin features a younger Abigail Adams writing the memorable phrase “Remember the Ladies” in a letter to her husband. The reverse was designed by Thomas Cleveland and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill.
