2010 Lincoln Cent

2010 Lincoln Cent reverse
The 2010 Lincoln Cent features a new reverse design which is expected to be used for the foreseeable future. The design is meant to be emblematic of Lincoln’s preservation of the United States as a single and unified country. The reverse features the union shield with thirteen vertical stripes and a horizontal bar with the motto “E Pluribus Unum”. This is intended to represent the thirteen original states joined as a single compact union. A banner draped across the shield bears the denomination “One Cent”. The reverse was designed by Lyndall Bass and sculpted by Joseph Menna. The obverse of the coin will continue to feature the portrait of Lincoln designed by Victor D. Brenner.

Just looking at the picture, it seems to me that one problem they are going to have to deal with is how to keep the denomination “one cent” from wearing off of the scroll. Think of the type 1 buffalo nickel or the date on all buffalo nickels.
Ratings:Abe… what you you think?
Ratings:When I saw this I thought it was a placeholder or a “TBD” type design quickly scrawled together until they could show what the true design was going to be.
Ratings:Imagine my suprise to see this 4th grade level design was what they were actually considering!
It looks like they just wanted to avoid any PC battles by choosing this one, as it conveys almost nothing.
Love the site BTW.
I personally loved this design and at one point the Mint indicated that they were going to go with it. However, we all know they don’t know if they’re coing or going lately. I believe that the U.S. Mint blew a golden opportunity to produced a true modern classic when they opted not to use this design.
Ratings:I like the wheeat and the eagle designs, but I’m sick of the obverse, Lincoln for 100 years in a row! Thats wierd
Ratings:y knot? seems b fitting. knot well realized tho.
Ratings:This clean and refreshing reverse for the cent will be a welcome addition to the annals of classic cent reverses. The shield, a common symbol of national unity during the mid-19th century, is a fitting tribute to Lincoln and his legacy.
Ratings:Personally I think it is a disgrace that the artists of this nation cannot produce a better design to honor one of the greatest presidents of this country. I would prefer the Lincoln Memorial be returned to the reverse of the cent rather than have to look at this shield.
Ratings:This is my favorite of all of the designs submitted. The shield has a great historical tradition with US Coins and it would be good to see it on the reverse of the 2010 cent
Ratings:I approve of the design
