  1. I like the choice. I think it is very appropriate; it’s our unifying symbol which was modified to include/unite all the states into “one nation”. The original colonies are still symbolized by the 13 stripes. The bottom line is - it’s a great symbol depicting a unified country. It’s symbolic; showing that our nation survived as a single unified nation.

  2. This design wouldn’t even make a decent bus token.
There are thousands of artists in this country who could do ten times better. They need to open this up to the public.

  3. I didn’t think that this design would go over big, and it didn’t. The design seems stiff and out of proportion artistically. It makes you wonder if any patterns were stuck of these alternate designs.

  5. I wouldn’t be shocked if this will make it. The U.S. mint continues it’s streak of blunders with such crap. This design is way too generic. I wouldn’t mind seeing the classic shield type design with a wreath of sorts, kind of like on the Indian Head cents.

I’m afraid of what the mint is going to do with the future of the half dollar and dime. They already destroyed the Jefferson nickel by making him look weak.

  6. Embarrassing. Do we need a cheap kindergarten design to remind us of how badly our currency is being devalued? Also, I’m from the south and we still occasionally teach the truth down here. Lincoln invaded and subjugated a sovereign and legal nation, blatantly ignored the constitution of his own country, and directly caused the deaths of several hundred thousand men by halting the prisoner exchange. What a hero. Maybe we should put King George III or Stalin on a coin? After 100 years I think its way past time for Abe to go. Hey, how about a representation of Liberty or Freedom on our coins? I don’t suppose the Lincoln supporters like that idea much. These are almost as well done as the SBA dollars were.

  7. The mint’s consulting committee needs its collective head examined here. My son could paste up something like this in less than five minutes.

Hardly inspirational and a waste of very valuable public art space!

Talk about the dumbing down of America! This coin’s egregious!

  8. College lettering looks tacky, either Lincoln’s era or our own, and has no place on US coins. I don’t like the idea of putting our flag on a coin, especially the lowest denomination of coin. (At least they paid attention to the 34 stars.)
